Yes. Another San Francisco trip.. what can I say? It’s a place that inspires me so much. I’ve officially visited this incredible city 14 times over the last 12 years. I’m lucky to have a brother who resides there, so it’s the perfect excuse to visit. This time though, Alanna and I hopped on a plane and headed to Austin, Texas after a few days in the Bay area. I’ve wanted to go to Austin for SXSW for years but it sadly has yet to happen. When Alanna asked me to come along on her journey to Texas (and then put the cherry on top with a quick rip to SF) how could I resist? This was a city on my list and it was about time I checked it out.
Austin was everything I could have imagined. The city has a true sense of community with individual flare. Different neighbourhoods offering unique personalities and culture. I only got to experience a small bit of the music scene, but I can tell you that if I lived in that city, I’d be broke from all the shows I would go to. Above all, a very genuine take away from this trip was the people. The people there are so friendly, making eye contact with you on a busy street to say hello, opening doors, and offering local tips and advice on where to go and what to do. It was an unexpected treat, which in my personal opinion is slightly sad to think that the opposite would maybe occur, but when you visit cities you just never know! Needless to say, I will be back and I encourage you to check it out if you haven’t yet. It’s a true gem in the South.
The photos you will see here have a strong focus on light and the shapes that surround it. When I travel it ignites my creativity even if in the simplest ways. It takes me out of the every day and allows me to see something so simple as dappling light on a subject and become drawn into it’s purity. The desire is there to create and even if the images captured don’t make it into the editing stage, there is still so much enjoyment of exercising the way I see light and the world that surrounds it.
Here are a few snippets from our journey…
